BBY953 2022 Fantasy Football Draft
This is the Godfather league. The start of it all. In 2010, Steve and Brad were working together at Best Buy, store 953, in Asheville, NC. There was interest across the store in getting a fantasy football league started, so Steve took it upon himself to create the league, and organize a draft. Our first 4 years of drafting, took place at Hickory Tavern (remember, if you’re not doing it in person, you’re doing it wrong). They were gracious hosts, always giving us a great location to put up a draft board, and making sure the group was always taken care of with food and drinks.
Since those early years, the group has changed over time. What started off as a league full of Best Buy 953 employees (hence the BBY953 league name), there are now only 4 of us left that have that original link. However, we’ve now built a solid foundation. And a brotherhood. Our current 10 have been together for coming up on 6 years (with the addition of one new person, as we lost one a couple years back due to political talk….Again, go read the first blog post in The Commissioner’s Corner).
This past years draft took place at Timber, an Axe Throwing facility in Hendersonville, NC. This was an absolute blast! They were fantastic hosts, had everything ready to go when we got there. Their instructions and guidance were more than we could have asked for.
The best part was, no one in our league was an expert. We took advantage of that and setup a points bracket that led to a tournament. The tournament let us figure out our draft order for 2023’s draft (always get creative…drawing names each year can get so dull).

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What Fantasy Sports App do you use or recommend?
Over the years, we’ve literally tried all of them. We spent the bulk of time on ESPN Fantasy Football, but we gave Yahoo a try for two years, as well as the NFL one. However, the past two years we switched over to Sleeper because of other integrations, such as chat. It’s been wonderful so far. Slight learning curve with it, but well well worth it.
What types of Leagues do you work with?
We have experience with 8, 10, 12 and 14 person leagues. We’ve setup and organized keeper leagues, re-draft leagues, dynasty leagues, and even Vampire leagues (Vampire has been a blast if you’ve not tried it).
Do you only do Fantasy Football drafts?
Right now, yes. However, we do plan to grow and expand into other Fantasy Sports markets. Our comfort and expertise has been with Football, and we’d not want to expand to the other areas without getting some solid knowledge of the sport and its players. We like to be engaged and invested just as your league does.
How much notice is required?
Everything that we do is unique to you and your league. So, that means we need to have time to order a lot of the material to ensure it’s customized correctly. With that said, three weeks notice should be just fine.
What if this is our first year with our league?
First off, welcome to the Fantasy Sports world. You’ll be amazed at the relationships you’ll build from talking fantasy sports, people you didn’t know before joining your league, blogs or even online threads. Now, if this is your first year starting a league, I can’t think of a better way to kick it off than to utilize our services. Use our growing pains we went through to your advantage, and start your league off right!
Do you only do events, or do you also offer help/consulting on configuring a league?
We would be more than happy to assist you with setting up a league, coming up with ideas for championship prizes, configuring draft order, etc. This is our passion, and any way that we can help extend that to you, we will do it!
